Understand source checks

Who this is for

Use this guide when Abe shows a source check in rules and standards search, an official update or a course result. A course check compares course details with your selected subject. A reference-answer check compares a statement with the permitted source material. Neither provides clinical evidence updates or treatment advice. These additions have not been activated or demonstrated in a connected customer's production account. The existing professional-development finder works separately.

Start here

  1. Choose a general professional subject or an exact reference, such as an MBS item number. Never include patient details. If Abe asks for refinement, retain your exceptions and date requirements; do not drop them merely to obtain a result.
  2. Read the check's stated scope. A course relevance check asks whether a course's public information relates to your subject. It does not confirm remaining places, recognition, enrolment, attendance or earned CPD credit.
  3. Read the official source and its version. Publication date not stated means the publisher's date is unknown. Last checked records an observation; Effective from is a separate date. Neither supplies a missing publication date.
  4. Keep every qualification shown with a claim. A reference answer does not determine a particular patient's eligibility, treatment or claimable Medicare service.
ResultWhat you can do
SupportedFor a course, the checked details match the stated subject and scope. For a reference answer, the checked statement follows the cited source. Read the qualifications.
Partial evidenceReview the missing coverage. A partially supported answer is not presented as completely checked.
Conflicting evidenceReview the sources that disagree.
Needs reviewReview the evidence or interpretation with an appropriate person.
Check unavailableContinue browsing sources; an unfinished check is not proof of support or irrelevance.
Source unavailableA current permitted source could not be established. This does not establish that information does not exist.
No relevant resultNo relevant result was established within the checked scope; coverage may be incomplete.

What success looks like

Jev and official updates

Jev is the checking model behind Abe's typed relevance checks. It can compare permitted public material with your selected topics and reject instructions hidden in that material. It cannot supply missing article content, authorise source use or decide your notification settings. Patient information and private interest descriptions are not sent to it.

The update integration recognises Medicare/MBS, PBS, AHPRA, NMBA, TGA and Department of Health selections. Exact source filters work without an AI judgement. A publisher's date is sent only when known; Abe's collection date is not substituted for it.

When topic checking is activated, each notice gets its own result: relevant, unrelated or held for review. An unclear notice does not hold up separately supported notices. Missing source permission, changed source versions and expired checks keep the affected notice held. These results concern relevance to your selected public topics; they do not certify clinical evidence, treatment advice or Medicare/PBS eligibility. Source selection, topic matching and a source-supported summary are separate checks. Jev cannot write a missing summary.

On 3 October 2026, a live synthetic test of the existing checker rejected two unrelated notices and two instruction attacks, but did not establish usable article evidence for six generic source labels. This is a diagnostic result, not an approved production evaluation. Automatic Jev topic checking for this domain remains inactive; source links remain available through their normal access checks. A generic label such as “AHPRA official update” cannot justify an article summary or a claim that the article concerns a particular clinical interest.

You can see what was checked, inspect the source and understand what remains outside the check. Purchasing access does not buy a more favourable evidence result. A clinic allocation or a host connection does not activate notifications for you.

In TeleScribe, NRS, a website, MCP or another channel, only Abe's assessed public material may carry this status. Text generated by the host, a clinic policy or a private artefact cannot inherit a whole-document checked label. Developers have a separate public-section interface; connecting it to an existing private generator requires its own tests and does not send the private draft to the checker.

If it does not work

Use Evidence search, Professional development or Source coverage to continue browsing. A check may be held because its source version, permission, model evaluation or available checking time changed. Do not repeatedly resend sensitive questions to obtain a favourable result. Tell support the screen, time and non-sensitive error text.

For alerts, Updates held for review means those updates have not been excluded. When the separately approved retention system is active, checks have a finite retry and expiry limit; expiry is retained as an outcome rather than converted to a successful match. An expired item is not automatically delivered later. Consult the official source yourself where timely information matters.

Stop or change your choices

Browsing does not subscribe you. You or an explicitly authorised administrator choose criteria, timing and destination through Alerts. Pause alerts, disconnect an app and cancel paid access separately through Manage and cancel. Evidence checking cannot override those choices.
