This guide is for professionals checking official MBS or PBS reference information. The intended exact Abe item lookup is not yet live or accepted as a customer journey. Reference information does not establish rebate eligibility, claim submission, prescribing authorisation, payment or patient-specific advice.

- Use the official MBS and PBS services for the current item information. The MBS field guidance explains item identifiers and descriptor/fee dates. The PBS API overview explains its official structured reference service.
- Check the complete identifier, applicable schedule or version, effective date and any amendments or restrictions. A displayed fee alone is not the full item descriptor or entitlement.
- Check the official current item page and relevant programme rules before relying on an item. A future Abe result must retain the official source and version; absence of a record cannot establish withdrawal.
There is no dedicated exact item-number lookup button established in Abe by this guide. The evidence-library search placeholder mentions MBS items, but that is not proof of an accepted exact funding lookup. You may use Evidence search for supported professional sources without treating its summaries as item eligibility decisions.
The official structured-source references above were checked during source research on 1 October 2026. That dated research does not renew a schedule, prove a present item, or grant redistribution rights. Current source rights and the exact lookup interface remain separate release requirements.
What success looks like
For an official lookup, the item identifier, full descriptor, current version and applicable dates agree with the official source. No Abe receipt of that complete exact lookup is claimed here. Neither employer funding nor a read subscription supplies permission for an unaccepted lookup.
If it does not work
Stop if the version is ambiguous, restrictions are missing or the fee cannot be interpreted. Confirm the item through the official service; do not fill gaps with a similar item or a guessed value. Report the non-sensitive identifier and source problem through Troubleshooting, without patient or claim details.
Stop or change your choices
Leave the reference service when finished. Manage separately selected professional updates through Alerts and paid access through Manage and cancel. This flow does not submit or cancel claims or provider bookings.
