Understand source coverage

Who this is for

Use this guide before relying on a result or assuming an absent result means no relevant information exists. A working search is not a complete national inventory. Source health, permitted use, query coverage and an accepted app or channel are different facts.

Start here

  1. Check which service answered your question. Official updates concern announcements and changes; rules and standards search concerns legislation and professional requirements; PD metadata concerns courses and providers. None automatically proves the others' coverage. This widget does not provide clinical evidence updates or patient-treatment advice.
  2. Open the cited official source where offered. Check its jurisdiction, version, effective dates and supersession. A newer published document may replace an older one without changing the general topic.
  3. Read the permitted representation. Permission for headlines and links differs from permission for full text. A source that can be downloaded or indexed is not automatically approved for every audience or purpose.
  4. Inspect the source checks and coverage gaps. In the PD finder, Last checked, Verified through and the evaluation time describe different dates. An already-started event is not made current by a future verification date.
  5. Treat missing or stale material as a limitation. Search terms can suggest relevance without proving profession applicability. The evidence library does not expose new profession/jurisdiction filters just because backend scope checks exist.

The dated 2 October 2026 public PD observation showed callable search and detail responses, with past-event and provider-link gaps. It did not verify current source rights, national breadth or a customer channel. It is not refreshed by reading this guide. Working search does not establish comprehensive AHPRA, TGA, Medicare or PBS coverage.

Which official updates Abe collects

On 3 October 2026, the live source records showed 16 enabled, automated sources, all healthy at their latest recorded successful check. The recorded checks and next due dates were one day apart. This verifies retained collection status; it does not prove exhaustive coverage, a future uninterrupted poll or delivery to your account.

PublisherIncluded update sources
AHPRAOfficial news and announcements.
NMBANursing and Midwifery Board news and announcements.
TGAArticles, consultations, events, guidance, legislation, market actions, medicine shortages, publications, resources and safety alerts.
Medicare Benefits ScheduleOfficial MBS news. This is not an item-number eligibility or billing decision service.
Pharmaceutical Benefits SchemePublished schedule metadata and summary-of-changes metadata. This does not recommend a medicine or establish an individual patient's eligibility.
Department of Health, Disability and AgeingEnglish-language official news links.

The AHPRA, NMBA, TGA, MBS and Department feeds currently permit official links and dates, rather than reproduction of article bodies or an invented article summary. PBS has approved metadata. Many real cards therefore have no article summary. A summary displayed in a demonstration is not proof that a real source permits one.

Users choose the sources and public topics they want. Collection does not enrol anyone in notifications. PHN HealthPathways access is not established by these feeds; any future licensed connection needs its own access and source-use agreement.

Additional coverage to consider

The widget describes these as Medicare/MBS, PBS, AHPRA/NMBA, TGA and Department of Health updates. The source filters let you select them separately.

  • Services Australia: separate Medicare administration and claiming news for health professionals. MBS news does not establish this coverage.
  • Other National Boards: profession-specific notices beyond the separate NMBA feed. AHPRA's National Boards identify the relevant regulators; a central AHPRA news feed is not proof of complete collection from each board.
  • Privacy: OAIC news is a candidate for privacy and information-handling announcements relevant to practice operations.
  • Accreditation and practice governance: Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care announcements are a candidate for standards publication and accreditation notices. Clinical treatment content is outside this update service's scope.
  • Commonwealth legislation: the Federal Register of Legislation offers changes to nominated laws. This is separate from regulator news and is prospective Abe coverage; its own alert service does not establish an Abe connection.
  • Digital health operations: Australian Digital Health Agency news and implementer announcements are candidates for My Health Record, electronic prescribing and software conformance notices. These would supply operational announcements, not patient-treatment recommendations.
  • Jurisdiction and practice sources: state and territory legislation, health departments, privacy and quality bodies, and relevant PHNs can be assessed for additional coverage. These are prospective source categories, not sources activated by this guide.

An additional source needs its own verified collection, terms and permitted-use scope before Abe offers it. Users then choose whether to include it. Source availability does not select or activate alerts.

Department news coverage

Professional-development listings have a separate collection process from official news updates. A working news feed does not prove current course information. The 4 October course-maintenance check found older captures being reprocessed and failed sources; real provider refreshes and failure monitoring remain under repair. See Find professional development before relying on course dates or availability.

The Department source is enabled in the existing updates pipeline. Its first live feed check stored ten official links, and a live medication search found the Department's medication-chart notice. Normal signed-in subscriber receipt remains unverified. It is separate from professional-development course search and the verified evidence corpus.

On 3 October 2026, Abe finished the observed 86 news-listing pages and verified 2,145 retained official links in its live updates search. The latest RSS check separately returned ten recent items. A phrase search for “Accelerating digital health” also found the original legacy link. Abe records archive progress separately from the latest feed check. This is not a guaranteed point-in-time snapshot: the publisher does not supply a snapshot token and pages may change during collection.

News includes announcements and speeches. A news item is not automatically legislation, an effective rule or clinical evidence. The search matches permitted links and Abe's own labels; full article searching, copied headlines and summaries are not approved by the Department's public commercial copying terms. A permission request has been drafted and has not been sent. Open the original source for its actual headline, content and publication date.

The RSS dates observed lacked timezone information. Abe leaves the precise publication date unavailable; the detection time remains separate. Historical archive links do not trigger retrospective alerts. A new source does not activate personal notifications or widen an application's grant.

For the Abe source owner: check terms and access rules

The new Source instrument checks screen is for a configured Abe platform owner who also currently owns the selected workspace. An ordinary subscriber or clinic administrator does not automatically receive this permission. Local database and synthetic browser checks passed; a normal signed-in production review is still unverified.

  1. Choose your current owner workspace, then a named source, and press Load current source controls. If you have no eligible workspace, the screen links to the separate personal workspace choice. It does not move your practice profile or grant source rights.
  2. Enter the actual terms and robots document addresses, the checking agent, exact paths, a finite expiry, maximum observation age and your reason. Review them, select I authorise these exact public GETs and hash-only retention, then press Record my authorisation. Opening the page does not approve or fetch those documents.
  3. Choose that retained authorisation and press Fetch complete preview. Read both complete documents. They are transient; Abe retains their response identity and hashes, and clears the displayed bodies when the preview expires or you change the source or account.
  4. Separately select I reviewed the complete instruments and approve this scope and finite comparison period, then press Approve this reviewed baseline. This records your reviewed comparison baseline. It does not grant a licence to reproduce or commercially supply the source.
  5. Select the reviewed baseline. Run one factual check fetches one comparison; Read the latest retained check reads its recorded result. unchanged means the complete bytes match, changed means they differ, and unknown means the check cannot establish the comparison. None is a legal interpretation or a clinical-evidence update. No recurring check is activated by this screen.
  6. To withdraw a retained decision or evidence, enter a reason, select the separate withdrawal confirmation and use its withdrawal button. Abe keeps the original history. An expired or withdrawn decision cannot authorise another check.

If the result is unconfirmed, it may already have been saved. Reload current source controls and inspect retained history before repeating a decision. The screen makes no automatic retry. A later daily dispatcher and commercial source permissions require their own supported setup; a successful factual check does not establish either.

What success looks like

The result identifies sources you can inspect and states material limitations. Any counts describe the returned or evaluated query scope, not a national total. A permitted link can still be useful when full text is restricted. An honest unavailable source or missing provider link is preferable to an invented citation.

If it does not work

For unavailable sources, use a permitted official link and check the current document yourself. If a version, jurisdiction or professional scope is unclear, stop before relying on it. Report the public source problem through Troubleshooting, without uploading restricted material or patient information. See Evidence search and Professional development for their current recovery controls.

Stop or change your choices

Source collection or polling does not subscribe you. Revise or pause your own Alerts independently. Stop relying on a result if its cited version or permitted use no longer matches your task; funding does not override that limitation.
